Please add your experience if you have been working with Xserve RAID in non-Apple or mixed environments. Examples would be experience attaching Xserve RAID to Solaris, AIX, HP/UX, Linux, Windows 2000/Windows Server 2003, managed SANs, etc. Experiences with Xserve RAID in Apple environments are welcome as well! Hardware RAID Card now available for Xserve and Mac Pro
Apple has now made available hardware RAID Card options for the Intel-based Xserve and Mac Pro. Both RAID Card offerings are $999 ($899 edu/govt).

Failure trends in ATA drives
Given the discussions about commodity ATA/SATA disks lately, this might be an interesting read. Google apparently uses mostly commodity/consumer ATA drives. They did a study of 100,000 of them.
